Dhankuta police have arrested eight prisoners on various charges who escaped from Jhumka Prison during the Gen-G movement.
According to Dhankuta Superintendent of Police Sarat Kumar Thapa Chhetri, the arrested are prisoners sentenced by the court in cases of manslaughter, mutilation, rape, theft and drug possession. According to information given by SP Thapa Chhetri on Tuesday, Yubaraj Rai, 30, of Khandwari Municipality-9, Sankhuwasabha, has been arrested from Bhedetarchowk, Sangurigadhi-6, Dhankuta. He was serving a 12-year and 6-month prison sentence in a manslaughter case.
Similarly, 34-year-old Sizan Tamang of Chaubise-3, who was sentenced to 30 months in prison and a fine of Rs 25,000 in a mutilation case, was arrested from his home.
Suresh Shiva, 21, of Sahidbhumi-2, 26, of Dhankuta Municipality-6, Anil Sahni, 26, of Sahidbhumi-7, Sangam Majhi, and 33, of Sangurigadhi-1, who were remanded in custody in a drug and marijuana case, were also arrested and sent back to prison.
Ramesh Mangmi Magar, 46, of Chaubise-2, Dharapani, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a fine of 100,000 rupees in a case of manslaughter and theft, and Sagar Rai, 32, of Sunsari, Dharan Sub-metropolitan City 20, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison in a case of manslaughter, were also arrested while hiding, according to the district police.
District Police Chief SP Sarat Kumar Thapa Chhetri informed that the fugitive prisoners were searched and taken into custody and sent to prison after completing the necessary legal procedures.
