Two people have been arrested on charges of involvement in the murder of a couple in Bhadaure. Police have arrested the brothers, 74, and Chandra Bikram Rai, 80, who were living in Bohore Tole in Bhadaure, Chishankhugadhi Rural Municipality-6, Okhaldhunga, on charges of involvement in the murder of them.
The arrested are Dhan Bahadur Rana, 34, and his brother, 17. They were arrested on the 23rd through a joint effort of the Central Investigation Bureau of the police and the District Police Office, Okhaldhunga, after initial investigations confirmed that two brothers from Bhadaure were involved in the incident. They were arrested from Dallu area of Kathmandu after preliminary investigations confirmed that the brothers had killed the deceased elderly woman to take her belongings, the police said. Both of them had planned to kill her from Kathmandu and returned to Kathmandu with the belongings after committing the murder. After the murder, they looted the gold Marwari and chain worn by the deceased Chandramaya Rai, mobile, recharge cards from their shop and cash along with a Si Mala (Pulik) necklace, informed DSP Madan KC of the District Police Office, Okhaldhunga.
The two brothers were living in a relative's room in Dallu, Kathmandu. After learning that the elderly couple in the village did not have any children and that they had wealth worth lakhs, especially gold, they came to Chishankhugadhi Rural Municipality on Bhadaure on 6 Bhadaure with a plan to kill them. On the day of the incident, they came to the village on the same day, killed them, looted the goods and headed towards Kathmandu that night.
Earlier, a robbery had taken place after the murder of a Magar couple in Bhadaure. According to police investigation, the motive for the murder in both the incidents is similar. It appears that the murder was committed due to financial greed, as both the couple had been living alone in the house and had a grocery store in their house.
