A half-length statue made of copper of Ganesh Kumar Karmacharya, who made significant contributions to education, social reform, and building the foundation for trade and development in the eastern hills, has been unveiled.
The statue was unveiled in Dhankuta's Talokopche amidst a ceremony. Born in 1970 BS, Karmacharya was active in the expansion of education during the difficult times of the Rana regime. He established and operated Gokundeshwor English School, initiating modern education in Dhankuta.
Similarly, in 2012 BS, he played the role of founder and director of the establishment of Dhankuta Multipurpose Campus. Similarly, in 2016 BS, he contributed to educational development by establishing Balmandir School.
According to social leader Rajendra Pradhan, Karmacharya was equally active in the field of education as well as social reform campaigns. During King Mahendra's visit to Dhankuta in 2013 BS, he took the reins of the horse the king was riding and took the initiative for the construction of the Dharan-Dhankuta motorway and the management of drinking water in the market area.
According to Pradhan, Karmacharya is known as a leading figure in expanding business activities in hilly districts including Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur. Karmacharya, who is also active in politics, was a candidate from the Mahasabha Party in the 2015 BS general elections.
