The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Dhankuta, has warned former Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai, the UML candidate for the House of Representatives from Dhankuta, for violating the election code of conduct.

Congress Dhankuta President and Congress candidate Dinesh Rai had filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer's office on Friday, alleging that UML candidate Rai had honored Tirtha Kumari Rai, 45, of Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality-1, Safaitar, with cash to influence voters.

A photo of UML candidate Rai distributing a certificate of honor along with Rs 5,000 in cash to Basuri Badak Tirtha Kumari Rai of Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality-1, Safaitar was being discussed on social media. Dhankuta Assistant Electoral Officer Indra Kumar Yonghang said that during the investigation into the same complaint, a warning was issued after it was found that the election code of conduct was violated.

Yonghang said, "Transacting money is against the code of conduct, we have warned you not to do this in the future." A letter to the same effect has been handed over to the candidate's people.'

Former minister and UML Dhankuta candidate Rai, Koshi Provincial Assembly member Niran Rai, Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality Chairman Manoj Rai and Vice Chairman Ratnashwari Rai were also there to award the flute player Rai.
Meanwhile, UML Dhankuta Publicity Department Chief Rabin Katel defended Rajendra Kumar Rai, saying that his candidate did not violate the code of conduct. He said, ‘Rajendra Rai did not distribute money, it was a pre-determined program, he was busy in the middle, and the candidate did not give money. The rural municipality chairman gave it. He did not give cash, he only honored him.’

Sub-section 1 of Section 48 of the Election Code of Conduct 2082 issued by the Election Commission states that if the code of conduct is violated, a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh or action up to cancellation of candidacy will be taken.
