The Election Police has extended the application deadline for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21 by two days after fewer applications were received in Dhankuta than required.
Dhankuta SP Sarat Kumar Thapa Chhetri said that applications will be taken again on Saturday and Sunday after the number of election police officers specified for Dhankuta was insufficient.
He said that applications will be taken from the District Police Dhankuta, Armed Police Force Chhintang Gulma Charagaun, Area Police Offices Rajarani and Chhintang for the election police.
In Dhankuta, there was a quota of 1,085 people, including 989 from the Nepal Police and 96 from the Armed Police. Earlier too, the deadline was extended by two days after the specified number of applications was not received. Even then, the expected applications for the election police were not received from both organizations. According to SP Thapa, the deadline had to be extended by two days due to the low number. Thapa said, “We will take applications on Saturday and Sunday. Now, we will train those who will be added and those who were selected earlier at once.”
There are 118,425 voters in Dhankuta. For which, 166 polling stations have been designated in 119 polling stations. Of these, 16 polling stations are on the highly sensitive list, said SP Thapa Chhetri. Similarly, 49 are sensitive and 54 are normal. A minimum of 3 police officers and 10 election police officers are stationed at sensitive polling stations.
SP Thapa Chhetri said that there is a provision to add more police officers based on the condition of the polling station and the number of voters. A minimum of 3 police officers and 6 election police officers are stationed at sensitive polling stations, and 3 police officers and 5 election security police officers are stationed at normal polling stations.
