Eighteen candidates, including political parties and independents, have registered their candidacies in Dhankuta for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21.

As the election approaches, interest in the results of the 2079 BS House of Representatives election has also started to grow.

In the 2079 BS House of Representatives election, the main competition was between CPN-UML's Rajendra Kumar Rai and Sunil Bahadur Thapa, who was the candidate of the Democratic Left Alliance, in Dhankuta.

CPN-UML candidate Rajendra Kumar Rai won the election by securing 30,101 votes. His nearest competitor, Congress leader Sunil Bahadur Thapa, secured 28,704 votes.

Rajendra Kumar Rai was elected by a margin of 1,307 votes. Hemraj Bhandari, who had separated from the then Maoist Center and filed an independent candidacy, secured third place by securing 5,926 votes.

Kumar Bahadur Thapa of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party secured 1,059 votes, while Aram Kumar Limbu of the Federal Democratic National Forum secured 625 votes. Similarly, Vishwamitra Tigela of Mongol National Organization received 217 votes and Ramesh Rai of Unified Power Nepal received 95 votes.

Rajendra Rai from CPN-UML, Dinesh Rai from Nepali Congress, Dharmaraj Poudel from Nepali Communist Party, Bibhatsu Thapa from Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Dinesh Bhandari from Rastriya Swatantra Party, Nishan Rai from Janata Samajwadi Party, Rabin Kumar Rai from Nepal Communist Party (Maoist), Aitaraj Limbu from Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Shalikram Rai from Rastriya Parivartan Party and Sagar Rai from Mongol National Organization have registered their candidacies for this election in Dhankuta. 

Similarly, Man Kumar Yonjan, Jitendra Rai, Gangaram Gomden and Lakpa Tamang have filed their candidacies as independent candidates. Based on the results of the 2079 BS election, political interest in Dhankuta is intensifying as to who will win this election.
