A problem has arisen in Dhankuta after fewer applications were received for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21.
Dhankuta Superintendent of Police Sarat Kumar Thapa Chhetri said that preparations are being made to take applications again on Saturday and Sunday after the number of election security police officers specified for Dhankuta was insufficient. He said that applications will be taken from the District Police Office Dhankuta, Chhintang Gulma Charagaun of the Armed Police Force, and the Area Police Offices Rajarani and Chhintang for the election security police.
Dhankuta had a quota of 1,085 people, including 989 from the Nepal Police and 96 from the Armed Police Force. Earlier too, the deadline was extended by two days after the specified number of applications was not received. Even then, the expected applications for the election security police were not received from both organizations. SP Thapa said that the deadline had to be extended by two days due to the low number. Thapa said, “We will take applications on Saturday and Sunday. Now, we will train those who will be added and those who were selected earlier at once.”
Dhankuta has 118,425 voters. For which, 166 polling stations have been designated in 119 polling stations. Of these, 16 polling stations are on the list of highly sensitive, according to SP Thapa Chhetri.
Similarly, 49 are sensitive and 54 are normal. A minimum of 3 police officers and 10 election security police officers are stationed at sensitive polling stations. SP Thapa Chhetri says that there is a provision to add more police officers depending on the situation of the polling station and the number of voters. A minimum of 3 police officers and 6 election security police officers are stationed at sensitive polling stations, and 3 police officers and 5 election security police officers are stationed at normal polling stations.
