Eighteen candidates, including political parties and independents, have registered their candidacies in Dhankuta for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21. In Dhankuta, which has only one constituency for members of the House of Representatives, all the candidates who have registered their candidacies are men, representing the three main old parties, new parties, and independents.
Suraj Shrestha, Information Officer at the District Election Office, Dhankuta, informed that 14 candidates have registered their candidacies from political parties in the direct category and all 4 are men from the independent category. Out of the 18 candidates in the direct category, 14 are indigenous people and 4 are Khasa Arya men.
No party has fielded women or Dalit candidates in Dhankuta. Dinesh Rai (Athpahariya) of Nepali Congress, Rajendra Kumar Rai of CPN-UML, Dharmaraj Poudel of Nepali Communist Party, Bibhatsu Thapa of Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Uttam Sakkarmi of Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party, San Bahadur Rai of Shram Sanskriti Party, Bal Kumar Tamli of Federal Democratic National Forum, Prem Bahadur Thapa of Aam Janata Party, Nishan Rai of Janata Samajwadi Party, Dinesh Bhandari of National Independent Party, Rabin Kumar Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist), Aitaraj Limbu of Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, Shalikram Rai of Rastriya Parivartan Party, Sagar Rai of Mongol National Organization are running for the House of Representatives seat from Dhankuta. Similarly, Man Kumar Yonjan, Jitendra Rai, Gangaram Gomden and Lakpa Tamang have filed their candidacies as independent candidates. Among them, Rajendra Kumar Rai is contesting for the fourth time. UML's Rai has been a candidate for four consecutive times since the second Constituent Assembly election in 2070, in 2074, 2079, and 2082. All the candidates for the post of member of the House of Representatives from the remaining political parties are new.
