The deadline for registering applications for election police in the mountainous and hilly districts of Koshi Province has been extended.

The deadline has been extended by two days after fewer than the prescribed number of applications were registered for the district.
The deadline for candidates to apply for recruitment to the Election Police was set from December 25 to Thursday, January 1.

However, in nine districts of Koshi Province except Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Udayapur, and Sankhuwasabha, the deadline has been extended by two days, informed Koshi Province Police Chief Binod Ghimire.

A total of 25,975 Election Police quotas have been determined for Koshi Province in Nepal and the Armed Police Force. For which, a total of 27,553 candidates have registered applications in both organizations till Thursday.

Out of the 23,424 prescribed quota to be taken by the Nepal Police for the 14 districts of Koshi Province, 1,992 are insufficient. Similarly, DIG Ghimire informed that 919 people are insufficient in the 2,561 quota for the Armed Police Force.

Only 876 candidates have applied for the 989 quotas set for Dhankuta in Nepal Police. Similarly, 1,474 have applied for the 1,734 posts set for Ilam, 970 for the 1,131 posts in Panchthar, 868 for the 1,011 posts in Bhojpur, 797 for the 1,186 posts in Khotang, 577 for the 877 posts in Okhaldhunga, 601 for the 851 posts in Solukhumbu and a total of 774 candidates have registered their applications for the 846 posts set for Taplejung.

Two more candidates have applied for the 520 posts set for Terhathum, or 522 more. DIG Ghimire said that the number of applicants is more than the prescribed quota in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Sankhuwasabha.

Nepal Police has registered 4,856 applications for the 4,388 quota required for Jhapa, 6,279 out of the 4,388 quota set for Morang, and 4,421 applications for Sunsari, which has a quota of 3,149.

In Udayapur, although the Nepal Police has received fewer applications, the number of people registering applications for the Armed Police is significant, so the number of applications from both sides will be matched. Only in Sankhuwasabha, Udayapur and Panchthar, the number of applications for the Armed Police is more than the number requested by the Armed Police. In the remaining districts, the number of applications for the Armed Police is found to be low. DSP Prem Prakash Sigdel of the Chhintang Gulma of the Armed Police in Charagaon, Dhankuta, said that the number of applications for the election security police is very low.

In Dhankuta, only 68 out of the 96 people requested by the Armed Police have applied. Dhankuta Superintendent of Police Sarat Kumar Thapa Chhetri informed that the application period has been extended by two days after the prescribed number of applications for the election security police was insufficient.

In districts where the number of applications is less than the prescribed number, the election police recruitment and selection committee led by the Assistant Chief District Officer can extend the deadline, informed Koshi Province Police Chief Binod Ghimire.

If the number of applicants is not sufficient even during the extended period, manpower will be managed from districts with more applications, including Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari. “We will manage those who are in the alternative from the districts with more number in the shortage areas,” Ghimire said.

After the registration of candidates on Magh 1, preparations were made to conduct selection from the 5th to the 9th and publish the final results on the 12th. The training of election security police is scheduled to begin from Magh 15.

The government has stated that the election police deployed in the upcoming House of Representatives elections will be deployed in the field for 40 days with the same facilities as police constables. It is said that the election security police will receive Rs 869.40 per day.
