The government has called for applications from December 25 for election police officers to be deployed in the House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21.
Dhankuta Police is accepting applications for election police from the same day. There is a quota of 1,085 election police officers for Dhankuta, including 989 for Nepal Police and 96 for Armed Police.
But in the last 4 days, only 389 people have applied to the District Police Office. Of which 300 are men and 98 are women. This number is much lower than expected, said Dhankuta Police Chief SP Sarat Kumar Thapa Chhetri.
He said that there will be a problem in the selection process if the number of applicants does not increase. He said, "It is possible to get good manpower by selecting from as many as possible, but looking at the number of applications so far, it is not as expected."
Meanwhile, Armed Police Force Nepal No. 6 Gulma Headquarters in Chhintang, DSP Prem Prasad Sigdel informed that a total of 12 people have applied for the 96 people allotted for Chhintang headquarters as of Monday. DSP Sigdel said that the number of applicants is not satisfactory.
The Armed Forces have made arrangements to receive applications for the election police from the Gulma premises in Chharagaun. SP Thapa said that applications for the election police can be submitted throughout the day on Magh 1. He said, "Information has been sent to villages and towns through the local level so that the number of applicants is as high as possible. We have also requested the local media for publicity, but the number has not come as expected."
Preparations are underway to complete the selection process for the election police from Magh 5 to 9 and publish the final results on the 12th. Similarly, Thapa said that the training will start from Magh 15.
The government has stated that the election police deployed in the upcoming House of Representatives elections will be deployed in the field for 40 days with the same service facilities as those received by police constables. The election security police receive Rs 869.40 per day.
