Locals have handed over Lila Kumar Chauhan, ward chair of Buwalung, Majhuwagadhi Municipality-8, Diktel, to the police after he allegedly assaulted and beat a woman while intoxicated. The locals handed him over to the police that night after he assaulted and beat a woman at the house of Khadga Bahadur Khatri in Diktel at 7:30 pm on Sunday.

Uma Khatri said that after Khatri's wife Uma Khatri entered the house, was beaten and dragged, and then taken into custody by the locals and handed over to the District Police Office at night. She said that he entered by kicking the door and after entering, Uma screamed for help, he dragged her and threw a helmet at her.

According to neighbor Rajan Sainju, Chauhan entered Khatri's house in search of Action Dahal, an employee of the Infrastructure Development Office. Chauhan, who came on the same motorcycle with Dahal, first assaulted Dahal and then entered Khatri's house indiscriminately after Dahal entered the house, Sainju said. Chauhan beat the woman and created unrest in the neighborhood, and when he informed the police, he took him to the police office and handed him over, Sainju said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police of the District Police Office, Khotang, Prakash Budhathoki, said that the locals brought Ward Chairman Chauhan in a state of intoxication and that discussions are currently underway between the two sides. ‘Ward Chairman Chauhan was brought in at night, discussions were held between the two sides till 11 pm, and discussions are still ongoing,’ said Budhathoki.

Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality Mayor Tirtharaj Bhattarai has said that the incident should be investigated and action should be taken against the culprits. ‘There should be an investigation into the incident, if found guilty, then action should be taken for forgetting dignity and causing such an incident,’ said Bhattarai.
