The 112-year-old Dhankuta District Hospital, established in 1970 BS under the name of the then Trichandra Hospital, has not had a blood bank so far, so when blood is needed, the relatives of the patients have been forced to personally find blood donors.

At the initiative of the Chief Executive Officer of the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Rajendra Kumar Raut, the NRNA National Coordination Council Japan, the NRNA National Coordination Council Congo, Robin Prasad Sherchan, Kisan Bhandari, Deepak Kadel and others have contributed the amount.

It is said that multilateral discussions are underway on the additional budget, structure, equipment and technical management required for the establishment of the blood bank.
In this context, a discussion was held at Dhankuta Hospital on Friday between political parties, local level representatives, social organizations and stakeholders. After the discussion, a public call has been made for support for the establishment and operation of the blood bank.
At the program, Pakhribas Municipality Mayor Gyan Bahadur Gurung said that the municipality is ready to provide institutional support if the necessary process is completed and a proposal is submitted.
Similarly, former Minister Rajendra Rai, Koshi Province Assembly members Niran Rai and Indramani Parajuli have also expressed their commitment to support in budget management for the establishment of the blood bank.
According to Nepal Red Cross Dhankuta President Chhatra Bahadur Shrestha, the necessary infrastructure will be prepared for blood collection, storage and testing in the hospital in the initial phase.
The hospital administration has stated that if the blood bank is established, there will be significant ease in the treatment of patients with emergency services, childbirth, surgery and other emergencies.
