The 'Online Valuation Software' system has been implemented as a trial at the Mechi Customs Office in Kakarbhitta, the eastern border post.

Shivlal Neupane, Chief Tax Officer of Mechi Customs Office, informed that this system will make the customs system transparent and streamlined as the actual customs valuation of commercial goods will be based on the transaction value instead of the reference price list.

It is said that the online valuation software system has been implemented as a test in eight customs offices of the country, including Mechi Customs. This system has been implemented in Mechi Customs and Bhadrapur Customs Offices of Jhapa since the second week of Poush.

Chief Tax Officer Neupane said that since legitimate trade will be encouraged, revenue leakage will be reduced through the system. The World Trade Organization had been urging its member countries to implement the online valuation system.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Uttar Kumar Khatri, who came to inaugurate the system, said that this system will reduce various types of irregularities and informal transactions in customs. He said that the government is encouraging good governance and taxpayer-friendly arrangements in customs and said that the private sector should facilitate the implementation of the system.

The Mechi Customs Office has set an annual target of collecting Rs 18.87 billion 74.83 million in revenue in the fiscal year 2082/83. Of this, the office has stated that it has already collected Rs 6.82 billion 272 million in revenue in the five months from Shrawan to Mangsir of the current fiscal year.
