'Pakhri Park' has been constructed in Pakhribas Bazaar, the center of Pakhribas Municipality, Dhankuta, with the aim of reflecting its historical and geographical identity.
The park is being built to give identity to Pakhribas by planting Pakhribas saplings. Pakhribas Municipality Mayor Gyan Bahadur Gurung said that the park was built to highlight the identity associated with the origin of the name Pakhribas.
In the past, due to the lack of transportation facilities, pedestrians and porters going to and from Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha and other districts in Pakhribas used to cook, rest, and sleep under the Pakhribas tree located here. After the old Pakhribas tree at that time was destroyed, a small park was created and saplings were planted.
It is believed that this place is named Pakhribas after the name of the Pakhribas plant. Pakhribas saplings found in the mid-hills were brought from Sankhuwasabha and planted in the park.
Mayor Gurung informed that Pakhribas Municipality has provided a budget of Rs 750,000 for the construction of the park. The local Pakhribas Youth United Club has collected donations and raised funds for the construction of physical infrastructure in the park. Ganesh Gurung of the club said that the club has invested five hundred thousand rupees.
The land on which the park was built was provided by local Nandamaya Gurung for the area post office at that time. After the post office was relocated, Pakhri Park was constructed by preserving the same place.
