Alam Miya, 40, of Birtamod Municipality-3, who escaped from prison during the Gen-G movement, has died in India.
Miyan, a prisoner who escaped from the Sundhara Central Jail in Kathmandu on Bhadra 24, had been working in hiding at the HNFA Water Treatment Company in the Himalayan province of India.
Miyan, who suddenly collapsed on Poush 20, died in India during treatment, said Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa.
The body of the deceased was brought home on Saturday via the Indian border post at Galgaliya. Miyan had been serving a four-year prison sentence for rape as per the court verdict.
