An agreement has been reached among locals to blacktop the Sindhuwa-Jitpur road in Dhankuta.

There was confusion as to where to start work on the road that connects Sindhuwa Bazaar in Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality to Mangmaya, Ahale, Mahalaxmi Municipality center Jitpur and Leguwaghat.

Although the road is named Leguwaghat, Jitpur, Sindhuwa, the DPR was written as Sindhuwa Bazaar in Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality and Jitpur in Mahalaxmi Municipality.

On Friday, after a multi-party meeting including Koshi Provincial Assembly member Indramani Parajuli, Mahalaxmi Municipality Mayor Dhruvraj Rayamajhi, Deputy Mayor Manju Kumari Karki, Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality Chairman Chhatra Bahadur Subba, Vice Chairman Geeta Gurung Khewa and ward chairmen of the wards touched by the road, an agreement was reached to start the blacktop from Sindhuwa, informed Uttam Narayan Kharel, Acting Chief of the Infrastructure Development Office, Dhankuta.

An agreement has been reached to start the work by considering Sindhuwa as the zero point. Acting Chief Kharel said, "After a multi-stakeholder meeting, it has been decided to start work from Sindhuwa. We will now issue a tender to blacktop about 4 kilometers of the road in the current financial year."

Although the tender should have been called in Shrawan last year, there was a delay due to confusion at the local level and managerial confusion at the Infrastructure Development Office. Earlier, the Infrastructure Development Office in Bhojpur was also looking at Dhankuta.

The Infrastructure Development Office has been established in Dhankuta since Shrawan. Mahalaxmi Municipality Chief Dhruvraj Rayamajhi said that although he proposed to start the blacktop work from Jitpur, he did not dispute it. He said that his opinion is that we should not freeze the allocated budget by arguing about the construction of the road, and that we should complete the legal process and work.

He said, "It is a belief that the road should be built no matter where the work starts and the money should not be returned, now the work will move forward." The track opened in 2057 BS in the name of an agricultural road was connected to Jitpur after 2063 BS, informed former Chief of Mahalaxmi Municipality Parashuram Nepal.

Although 200 million rupees have been secured for blacktopping 12 kilometers of roads in Sindhuwa Bazaar, Mangmaya, Ahale, Deurali, and Jitpur, the work is only starting now, he said. Of this, 4 kilometers of roads are planned to be blacktopped at a cost of 20 million rupees in the current fiscal year.

Provincial Assembly member Indramani Parajuli said that the budget for the remaining work will be managed by the provincial government. He said, "An additional 600 million rupees may be needed to do the remaining work, for which efforts are being made to keep the plan in a multi-year period and manage additional budget after talking to the provincial government."

Although it was believed that the roads connecting local centers from the main highway would be blacktopped, the road connecting the center of Mahalaxmi Municipality could not be blacktopped.
