Dhankuta Municipality has conducted 'Tourist Guide' training for local youth to promote tourism and create employment.
In collaboration with the Nepal Mountain Training Institute, 15 youth from Dhankuta Municipality have been given a seven-day training on the conduct, practical knowledge, etiquette, communication skills, safety awareness and responsibility required for ‘tourist guides’.
Tourism workers, historians and geologists have provided the youth participating in the training with a seven-day course on Dhankuta’s history, culture, language, geographical features, reliable information and guidance for tourists.
The guides will explain, tour and introduce local specialties to tourists visiting Dhankuta. The tourist guide training will help tourists guide, engage in local tourism-related activities and self-employment, informed Chintan Tamang, the mayor of Dhankuta Municipality.
He said that multilingual training will also be provided to basic guides to promote tourism. Dhankuta Municipality has heritages of religious, cultural, historical and archaeological importance including historical landmarks like Bhagwati Temple, Thuyurde Hat, Suntale City, Bishranti Dham, Mulghat Dhankuta Padmarg, Mahendra Park, Aathpahariya Museum, Koshi Province Museum, Chulivan, Hile, Bakrakunda, Uttarpani, Madhuganga Pilgrimage Site.
Dhankuta Municipality has also set up a Tourism Information Center at Bus Park to provide tourist information and information within the city. In addition, the Information Officer, Development Officer, informed that Dhankuta Municipality is also preparing a tourism policy.
