The construction of a Buddhist stupa in Panchdhara, Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality-9, with the aim of promoting tourism and religious tourism, has been completed. The Buddhist stupa was built with the aim of promoting religious tourism and increasing religious tolerance.
The stupa was built with a budget of Rs 2.7 million received from the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, said Ward Chairman Nawaraj Mangpahang of Temkemaiyung-9 Lekhkarka. The stupa was built based on the style and shape of the Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu.
Ward Chairman Mangpahang said that the work was completed by bringing skilled craftsmen from the Kholukhumbu region. He said that the stupa was built targeting the Buddhist community as well as promoting tourist destinations in the area.
Ward Chairman Mangpahang said, "We have built the stupa with the aim of improving the income level of the locals by promoting tourism as it has religious and natural potential. Panchdhara is an area with abundant natural, religious and tourist potential." We believe that the construction of the stupa will help promote tourism here.'
Ward Chairman Mangpahang informed that work is being done by putting forward the concept of building 'Panch Dham' with the aim of developing Panchdhara as an overall religious destination. According to him, a staircase and a footpath have been built along with the stupa. He said that there is a plan to build another small stupa with a budget of three hundred thousand rupees received from the provincial government within the current fiscal year.
The stupa that has been built is 26 feet long, 26 feet wide and 21 feet high, informed Consumers' Committee Chairman Binod Kumar Rai. He said that the physical infrastructure being built at the initiative of the ward will make a significant contribution to the tourism development of the Panchdhara area.
Rural Municipality Vice-Chairman Ramadevi Rai said that emphasis has been placed on the planned development of the tourist areas within Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality. She said that the rural municipality is implementing development programs by prioritizing agriculture and tourism.
Vice-Chairman Rai said, 'Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality is an area with great potential in terms of both agriculture and tourism. Our goal is to connect agriculture and tourism with the livelihood of local people.'
