Most of the patients who came for check-ups at the free health camps conducted in Sotang Rural Municipality-2 and 5 of the Himalayan district of Solukhumbu have been found to have problems with high blood pressure, asthma, cough, diabetes, and kidney disease.

Senior cardiologist Prof. Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi informed that during the two-day health camp organized by Nepal Heart Foundation, Patan Rotary Club, Medicare Hospital and Chapel Foundation, about 500 patients were examined and 70 percent had high blood pressure, 50 percent had asthma, 30 percent had diabetes and 15 percent had heart disease.

Similarly, congenital heart disease was found to be present in 8 percent and rheumatic heart disease in 5 percent. According to him, during the health examination of about 2,500 children from 15 schools, 20 of them had heart disease and four of them required immediate surgery.

The patients underwent echo and ECG tests at the camp and medicines worth about five lakh rupees provided by Lomas Pharma were distributed. The tests were conducted by Dr. Urmila Shakya, Premraj Vaidya, Ajay Adhikari and Angela Vaidya.
