Manmohan Technical University in Budhiganga, Morang is going to run a Bachelor of Technical Education (BTech) program in Civil Engineering.
The university, established by the Koshi State Government, is going to run a technical bachelor's program in partnership with the Swiss government for junior civil engineers who have passed SEE and completed a three-year diploma.
The university has already signed a formal agreement with the Swiss government to run a technical bachelor's program in line with the National Vocational Qualification Framework Level-6 for the first time in the civil engineering sector in Nepal.
A formal agreement has been signed between the Dean of the University's School of Engineering, Dr. Rekha Shrestha, and the Country Director of Swiss Contact, Sanjay Karki, to run the BTEC program. With this agreement, preparations are underway to start teaching by developing the curriculum, informed the Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. Subash Shree Pokharel. According to Vice Chancellor Pokharel, the partnership between the university and Swiss Contact under the Nepal Vocational Qualification System Project has been established with the aim of strengthening Nepal's technical and vocational education and training system.
According to the agreement with Swiss Contact, MTU will develop a competency-based curriculum for junior engineers who have completed a three-year diploma. The curriculum will include work-based learning, industry-related modules, consultation with professional and industry councils, and competency standards tailored to the needs of Nepal's infrastructure and construction sectors. Dean of the university, Dr. Shrestha, said that the program will be important to provide the necessary high-level technical education to the youth of the country.
Karki, Country Director of Swiss Contact, said that the collaboration with this technical university will prove to be a milestone in the skill development sector of Nepal. Currently, pre-diploma and diploma level programs are being run in Nepal through the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTVT).
However, junior engineers who have completed a three-year diploma after SEE were confused due to the lack of clear arrangements for higher level studies. Therefore, it is said that the VTech program to be run by Manmohan Technical University will further help them in their professional advancement.
