The Vishranti Gurukul, established four years ago at Vishranti Dham in Mulghat to produce Hindu scholars and priests and to continue the Shruti tradition, has faced difficulties in its operation.

Due to financial constraints, the studies of the Batuks who are taking religious education are being affected. 35 Batuks are studying in classes 6 to 9 of the Vishranti Sanskrit Gurukul, which is conducting classes in Sanskrit language, grammar, Vedas, rituals, modern Nepali, English, mathematics and other social sciences.

Shaurabh Pokharel, a teacher working in the Gurukul, says that the Batuks are receiving both Eastern and Western education in the Vishranti Gurukul. He said that it is providing matrilineal, patrilineal, gurukulial and Western education.

Now, Batuks have come from almost all the districts of the Koshi region to study in this Gurukul. However, difficulties are arising in operating the Gurukul with residential facilities. The Vishranti Temple Management Committee had brought into operation a fixed fund of Rs 10 million for the operation of the Vishranti Sanskrit Gurukul.

Four years ago, the amount kept at a monthly interest rate of 12 percent was used to earn about Rs 1.2 million annually. But now the bank has reduced the interest rate from 12 percent to 2.57 percent. Janardan Ghimire, general secretary of the Vishranti Temple Management Committee, says that the Gurukul is being run by the Vishranti Temple Management Committee due to the continuous decrease in interest rates of banks after the Corona pandemic.

The Gurukul is run by the Vishranti Temple Management Committee. But a sub-committee has been formed under the leadership of Leelanath Mishra for its further supervision and management. ‘The interest on the money kept in the bank could not increase, it became difficult to run the Gurukul,’ Ghimire said that a guardian campaign was launched to run the Gurukul.

The management said that a person who provides five lakh rupees as a donation is considered a ‘guardian’. Ghimire says that they have launched a guardian call program with the plan that the interest of five lakh rupees will cover the annual maintenance and education expenses of a child.

But that target has not progressed as planned. The government receives an annual grant of five lakh rupees for the operation of traditional schools. Apart from this, the main basis of the Gurukul operation is the donations of donors. This Gurukul is being operated in the Vishranti Old Age Home, which was established in 2039 BS.

There are 40 people working in the Gurukul, including the salary of the Acharya, the maintenance of the Batuk, the cook and the assistant. About 3 million rupees are spent annually on their daily food, snacks, accommodation, clothes, copies, books and general treatment. The declining interest rate of the fixed fund and the decrease in donations have made it difficult to operate the Gurukul.

General Secretary Ghimire says that the interest and cooperation of the government and the local community are necessary for the long-term operation of the Gurukul.
