Silichong Rural Municipality of Sankhuwasabha has started a free door-to-door treatment service, prioritizing the health safety of senior citizens with the harsh winter weather.
According to Rural Municipality Chairman Bhupal Raj Mewahang, health workers have not only provided treatment to 439 senior citizens over the age of 75 living in the rural municipality, but they have also distributed electric water heaters to heat hot water.
The program has been launched to reduce the risk of cold weather to the elderly and to make access to treatment easier for everyone.
Public representatives and health workers are visiting each house to provide basic services such as health check-ups, blood pressure checks, and sugar checks to senior citizens. The rural municipality has stated that general medicines will also be distributed free of charge to everyone over the age of 70.
‘This service was effective and necessary as health problems increase for senior citizens during the winter season,’ said Chairman Mewahang. ‘It will be continued as part of the rural municipality’s annual program.’
