The operation of an illegally operating crusher industry in Leguwaghat, Arun Rural Municipality-6, Bhojpur has been banned.
The industry, which has been operating for a long time without completing any legal process, was closed down by the District Monitoring Committee after an on-site monitoring. During the on-site monitoring, the operation was stopped after it was found that this crusher was illegally exploiting natural resources, informed District Coordination Committee Chief Kamal Thulung.
'We are monitoring the crusher industries operating in the district,' he said, 'We have been closing down the crusher industries operating against the law to bring them within the legal ambit. During the monitoring, we have closed down the crusher industry located in Leguwaghat after it was found to be operating illegally.'
Chief Thulung informed that this crusher industry was found to be illegally extracting riverine materials. He said that the operation has been stopped until the necessary legal process is completed. He also said that after the operation of the illegally operating crusher industry was stopped, various individuals and groups are pressuring it to operate.
The District Monitoring Committee has stated that the mining, sale and management of riverine materials, stones, gravel and sand, is being operated in violation of the 2077 BS standards. The monitoring committee has stated that although there is a legal provision to operate crushers at a distance of 500 meters from a paved bridge, 200 meters from the road, 100 meters from the river bank and 100 meters from the high-tension line, the industry has not completed any of the procedures.
Currently, this crusher is operating about 300 meters north of the paved bridge on the Legua-Bhojpur highway, 60 meters from the Arun river bank. There is a provision that it should be closed if it is within 500 meters of a settlement. The committee has concluded that the crusher is located within 350 meters from Legua Bazaar in Bhojpur and Ram Bazaar in Dhankuta.
A crusher industry has been operating illegally on the banks of the Arun river in Legua on the Mid-Hill Highway since Magh 2072 BS.
