Mother-in-law dies, father-in-law seriously injured after niece and daughter-in-law poison food

Police have arrested Sunita Karki, 32, her niece and daughter-in-law, on charges of involvement in the incident. According to police, she has admitted to mixing poison in the food.

Mother-in-law dies, father-in-law seriously injured after niece and daughter-in-law poison food

In Belbari Municipality-2, Morang, 77-year-old mother-in-law Indramaya Rai died after her niece and daughter-in-law mixed poison into her food. According to the District Police Office, Morang, 70-year-old Bhakta Bahadur Rai was seriously injured after eating the poisoned rice.

They were found unconscious on Saturday after food was poisoned at home. Locals found Bhakta Bahadur unconscious in a ditch near their house at around 3 pm. When they took him home, Indramaya was also found unconscious in the yard. Police have claimed that it was confirmed that they were poisoned after three chickens were found dead in the yard. 

They were immediately taken to Nobel Medical College for treatment. DSP Harinandan Chaudhary, spokesperson for the District Police Office, said that Indramaya died during treatment at the college on Saturday night. Bhakta Bahadur is undergoing treatment in a serious condition.

Police have arrested his niece and daughter-in-law, 32-year-old Sunita Karki, on charges of being involved in the incident. According to the police, she has confessed to mixing poison in the food. 'Karki said that she burnt the pot in the garden after feeding the poison,' a police source said. 'We have also recovered the burnt pot of poison.'

Police say Karki poisoned the Rai couple's food due to a family dispute. Police have extended the time limit for the manslaughter case against Karki and are continuing the investigation.
