Rong Rural Municipality of Ilam has laid the foundation for stability, security, and a future for the first time in the lives of 21 orphaned children.

Through the 'Students with the Chairman Program', the municipality has lit a new lamp of hope and trust for orphaned and underprivileged children. From the day the procedure prepared by combining entrepreneurship and social responsibility was implemented two years ago, the municipality had expressed its commitment to bring about a change in the lives of children. The same commitment was seen in practice on Thursday. When 21 orphaned children realized that they were not 'lost' but 'there is someone to hold their hand in their place'. At a program organized in the

rural municipality premises, Chairman Manikumar Syangbo took over the guardianship of the children and said emotionally, 'This was my dream project, and today it has been completed.' While saying this, both pride and responsibility were mixed in his voice. Chairman Syangbo said that the

program has fully guaranteed the health, education and financial security of the children. ‘The municipality will bear the entire treatment expenses of these children. We will provide free education up to grade 12,’ he said, ‘In addition, we will create a financial basis to secure their future by saving regularly in their bank accounts.’

The municipality handed over a year’s worth of educational materials to clothes during a program on Thursday so that the children would not lack the necessary materials they need immediately. Some had new bags in their hands, while others had tears of joy in their eyes.

‘Now I too can say that I am safe,’ a student said emotionally after receiving the goods, ‘What if there is no mother or father, and we have a local government.’

This initiative by the municipality has not only provided support to the parents, but has also instilled the courage to live with confidence and respect. It is believed that this program will change the course of life for these children who see their future uncertain.

Vice-Chairperson Bishnumaya Khawas said that the rural municipality is now preparing to call for donors to further strengthen the program. According to her, a program to connect children with enterprises will be introduced soon. The municipality also aims to provide further support to them by publicizing a student incentive program. She said, "It is our responsibility to create an environment where the state and society support these children without guardians."
