Police have arrested three people from Damak, Jhapa, along with two pistols that were stolen from the Metropolitan Police Office, Kathmandu, during the Gen-G protest.
Police have also recovered two pistols and 20 rounds of bullets from them. The arrested are Bishwa Lingden, 29, of Prashantitol, Damak-6, Saroj Puri, 26, of Damak-9, and Pawan Hangsungwa, 30, of Ainadare, Ilam, according to the District Police Office.
Last night, a team deployed under the command of Deputy Inspector Kumar Somes Lamichhane from the Narcotics Control Bureau Branch Office, Kankarbhitta, and a joint team of police deployed from the Damak Area Police Office arrested Saroj Puri, who was camping in Damak-8, while he was walking outside his room. The bureau said that a large-caliber Type-54 Chinese pistol and 15 rounds of bullets were recovered from him. After initial investigation, he was handed over to the Area Police Office.
During interrogation, Puri gave a statement that he had kept another weapon with Bishwa Lingden. Based on that, the police arrested Lingden at his home. During further interrogation, Bishwa Lingden admitted that he had sold the weapon to Pawan Hangsungwa, a resident of Chulachuli-4, Ilam, for Rs 20,000, according to the police. Later, a joint team of the Narcotics Control Bureau Branch Office, Kankarbhitta, and the Area Police Office reached Hangsungwa's farm.
Police said that a large Type-54 Chinese pistol and five rounds of bullets were found in a red plastic bag hidden in a hole dug there. The pistol was loaded and rusty. Hangsungwa has also been taken into custody and brought to Damak. Police said that all three people have been sent to Kathmandu for necessary action along with both the seized weapons and 20 rounds of bullets.
