What you should know

The construction of the under-construction hospital building in Dhankuta is being delayed due to the contractor's confusion. The five-storey building of the District Hospital Dhankuta is being constructed on 24 ropanis of land in the name of the Sericulture Development Office in Dhankuta Municipality-7.

The then Urban Development and Building Office of the Koshi Province Government had signed a contract agreement with Namuna Construction Pvt. Ltd. for the construction of the building in 2080 Asad for a price of Rs 283.652 crore. The deadline for the construction of the building is only until Asad 2083. In the two and a half years of the agreement, only 40 percent of the construction work has been completed.

Only the three-story structure of the five-story building with modern facilities including a lift has been completed so far. The then Urban Development and Building Office has now been merged with the Infrastructure Development Office. After complaints of delays in the construction of the building, the Infrastructure Development Office, Dhankuta, has directed the construction company to start the work that has been stalled since Asad within 15 days.

Acting Chief of the office, Uttam Narayan Kharel, said that the construction company has been instructed to present a basis for completing the work within the deadline.

Murari Adhikari, the representative of Namuna Construction, who was given the responsibility of the construction of the building, said that despite some delays in the work, they are trying to complete the project within the deadline. He said that the project work will be completed within the deadline by adding manpower and equipment.

In the last fiscal year, only Rs 40 million was spent out of the 14 million received from the special grant as the work did not progress as expected, said Kharel, acting chief of the Infrastructure Development Office. For the current fiscal year, Rs 66.5 million has been allocated.

The office has already paid 34 percent, or Rs 95.4 million, to the construction company for the project, which has seen 40 percent physical progress.

The Koshi Provincial Government had decided to upgrade the 15-bed Dhankuta Hospital to a 100-bed hospital in 2078 BS. Four years after the decision to upgrade the hospital, the Koshi Provincial Government has approved the operation of the Provincial Teaching Hospital in Asoj last year.
