The Division Forest Office, Jhapa, has urged the general public to be vigilant as a herd of elephants has entered the district in the northern part of the East-West Highway.

The office has stated that it has been conducting patrols and miking to make the public aware and urged them to take precautions.  'We are conducting night patrols and miking in the municipality where the elephants are located to prevent loss of life and property,' he said. 'The forest office is marking the area where the elephants are heading and patrolling the area.'

The elephants stay in the community forest area during the day and only move at night. He said that the herd is expected to return to India via Prasad Gounda in Bahundangi by today and tomorrow.
