The Ilam-Rajduwali road section along the Mechi Highway has been blocked due to continuous rain since Thursday.

Chief District Officer Sunita Nepal said that the operation of vehicles on that section has been suspended due to the road being submerged in various places. Until further notice, the operation of vehicles on that road has been completely suspended.

The Tilkeni-Simalgolai-Shilpur road, which is operated as an alternative road to the Mechi Highway, has also been blocked due to rain and landslides. The road has been closed since Asoj 18 after the concrete bridge at Maikhola in Belase of the Mechi Corridor (Kechana-Kanchanjungha Road) broke. Road communication between Ilam and Jhapa has been cut off after all roads connecting Ilam to Jhapa have been blocked.

According to the information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the weather in various areas including Ilam in Koshi Province will be affected until Saturday due to the cyclone 'Montha' developed in the Bay of Bengal.
