Floods following incessant rains from October 18 to 20 have destroyed 463.42 hectares of rice crops in Jhapa. Sagar Bista, head of the Agricultural Knowledge Office, informed that 1,644.33 metric tons of rice worth Rs 57.523 crore belonging to 703 farmers has been destroyed.

'The floods have also damaged other agricultural crops, but not as much as rice,' he said. 'Farmers are in trouble as the floods washed away the paddy that was about to ripen.' The floods in the Kankai and Biring rivers due to the rain have washed away the most paddy fields. Chief Bista said that the floods washed away agricultural products planted on 5,12.63 hectares of land in Gauriganj, Jhapa rural municipality, Bhadrapur, Kankai, Shivasatakshi and Gauradaha municipalities. According to him, more damage has been reported in Jhapa rural municipality compared to other municipalities.
