Indra Bahadur Khadka, Chairman of Chaite Community Forest Consumer Committee, said that trial processing has been started with a dyer machine for drying green cisnus worth 10 lakhs, a machine for grinding dried cisnus and a packaging machine.
The processing has been started from Dandakhark, near the tourist market Vasantpur, which is the service center of Laligurans municipality. The committee, which has reached the final stage of the industry registration process, has initially set a target of producing up to 10 kg of powder per day. Supermarkets from different districts are contacting the committee for sales and distribution.
That's why it will be difficult to meet the demand, so the committee is also looking for sources of machines capable of producing up to 50 kg of powder per day, said Sri Prasad Karki, Deputy Head of District Coordination Committee, Sisno Processing Engineer. Now, green sisno is being bought and processed at Rs 80 per kg.
According to Dipendra Basnet, joint secretary of Chaite Community Forest Consumer Committee, who has been working on processing, to prepare one kg of powder by processing, nine kg of green leaves are required and its price will be around 3500. Established in 2052, Chaite Community Forest Consumer Committee has 360 household consumers. Out of the forest area spread over an area of 354.4 hectares, sisnu plantation has also been done in an area of one hectare.
Committee officers, members and consumers have donated the labor of Patle, Allo and family varieties of sisno. Birendra Basnet, a member of the consumer committee and a member of the sub-committee of the Sisno processing program, said that in order to avoid the lack of green cisno for processing, the aim is to show the cisno to the tourists who come to Basantpur market, which is the gateway to the Tinjure-Milke-Jalajle (TMJ) region, the capital of Gurans, to show them the cisno at home, pick them and cook them themselves.
Cisno, which has multiple properties, was once considered as a wild green eaten by the poor. However, as the utility, importance and benefits of sisno are gradually becoming known, now from homestays to star hotels, sisno is in demand.
Even the hotels of Basantpur market, which is full of tourists for twelve months, have a lot of tourists looking for sisno dal. Birendra Basnet, the proprietor of the Darjeeling Hotel in Basantpur, says that after the processing of sisno, which is not available every year, has started, now there is hope that sisno can be served to tourists in any 'season'.
