Former Tharu leaders have complained that the provincial and local levels did not help in the protection of the village, which is the faith of the Tharu community.
Tharu leaders have expressed their concern at the program of Village Protection Committee of Koshi Province in Itahari that the village has been encroached upon by various people recently. Villages, Panighatta, Gaucharan and Pokhari, which carry the religious identity and culture of the Tharu community, are in crisis because of local people and land traders, they said that the local and state governments have become indifferent to conservation initiatives.
They say that although there is a clear provision in the Local Government Operation Act 2074 to protect local religious and cultural places, the people's representatives have not taken any initiative to protect villages. Tejnarayan Choudhary, Chairman of Gramthan Protection Committee, Koshi, said that if the state does not pay attention to the preservation of the lost places of the tribal community and the rituals and culture connected with the place, there is a danger of extinction. In the
program, Ram Bhakta Kuruwang of inter-religious network, rights activist Ramesh Bhattarai, Pradeep Biswas of Virat Rajvanshi Samaj and others have drawn the attention of the three levels of the government to the protection of the Gramthan, a religious place that Tharu community considers as a religious place from birth to death.
