Three arrested in the abortion case escaped, one was sent to prison

One of the women arrested on charges of causing an abortion has been sent to prison. A 21-year-old woman from Diktel Roopakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-4, who was arrested on the charge of having a 17-week abortion after taking medicine, was sent to jail on Monday.

She was sent to jail because she could not pay the two lakh bail requested by Shrestedar Baburam Basnet on Monday. A 23-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi-4, who were arrested along with him in the same case, have both been released after posting a two lakh bond. A medical practitioner from Diktel, who was arrested in the said case, has also been released after paying a bond of 150,000.

After the decision of the Judicial Council on the 30th of July, Judge Narayan Prasad Dahal was transferred to Bhojpur, Basnet decided that there would be a reconsideration in the absence of a judge. Three of them were arrested on July 23 and a medical practitioner was arrested on July 29, and a case was filed against them for the crime against pregnancy protection, said Police Inspector Sushant Mishra, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Khotang.
