Due to insufficient rainfall in Jhapa, dry paddy planting has been affected. Even when the third week of June is about to pass, the planting has been affected due to insufficient rain.

Ratan Kumar Bhulel, a farmer of Haldibari-6, said that he had already planted by this time last year. 'Khasiya after planting last year (planting and uprooting again) also  I had already moved,' he said. He was farming on one and a half bigha and lamented that there was no alternative system of irrigation.

The seeds have turned yellow due to lack of planting. At this time last year, about 25 percent of the planting in the district was completed, while this year, around 14 percent of the planting has been done. Chetraj Bhandari, extension officer of Krishi Gyan Kendra, expressed his belief that the planting will increase as the farmers have started using motors to draw water when there is not enough rain.

Fertilizer shortage

In Jhapa, like last year, there is a shortage of fertilizer this year as well. Sagar Bishta, head of Krishi Gyan Kendra said that farmers are complaining about not getting fertilizer. Chief Bishta informed that 12,000 metric tons of DPA and 14,000 metric tons of urea are needed for paddy cultivation in Jhapa.

The supply has not been according to demand. Last year, only 10 percent of fertilizer was supplied based on demand, he said. If the use of cow dung can be increased, the use of chemicals can be reduced by 40%, said Chief Bista. is increasing. In the

district, the productivity of rice reached 4.85 in the financial year 2078/079, 4.89 in the year 2079/080 and 5.05 in the last year, the center said.Although the area of rice cultivation in the district has decreased from 87,500 hectares to 75,469 hectares, the productivity is increasing, said Bista, head of Agricultural Knowledge Center Jhapa.

In Jhapa, most paddy cultivation is done in Gauradah Municipality, while the least amount is done in Damak Municipality. According to the center, Mangye paddy cultivation is also done in Gauriganj and Kachankawal.
