Chaite rice production has increased in Morang. According to Krishi Gyan Kendra Morang, 2,422 metric tons more rice has been produced this year than last year.
Although the production of Chaite paddy has increased, the farmers have become worried due to the fall in the price. Last year, 98,952 metric tons of paddy was produced in the district, but this year it has increased to 1,1374 metric tons. Last year, 17,670 hectares of Chaite rice was planted, this time it has increased to 17,755 hectares, said Deepa Dev, head of Agricultural Knowledge Center Morang.
Last year, the price of paddy rose to 1,200 rupees, and this year it has decreased to 600 rupees, said Hareram Shah, a paddy fork trader in Belbari-9. Veerendra Khatri, a farmer of Belbari 11 Bhangbari, complained that Chaite rice did not raise investment and said, ''Due to the storage problem, rice has to be sold cheaply, paddy husk is Rs.800 Chaite paddy is 600.'
According to Krishi Gyan Kendra, out of 17 municipalities, the farmers of Sundararaicha, Belbari, Patharisanishchare, Urlabari, Kanepokhari, Ratuwamai, Sunavarshi, Rangeli and Jahda are especially cultivating chaite rice. Agricultural Knowledge Center has informed that farmers are planting Hardinath 1, Chaite 5, Chaite 6 and Ram paddy in Chaite paddy.
