With the onset of monsoon, the Chief District Officers of five districts, including Solukhambu, have concluded that an early warning system should be set up as the glaciers will explode and the flow of the river will increase.
The inter-district security coordination meeting of Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha and Solukhumbu chief district officers, representatives of security agencies and stakeholders held at Halesi in Khotang on Saturday evening came to this conclusion. A decision has also been taken to request the National Disaster Risk Reduction Authority to set up an early warning system, said Anoj Ghimir, Pragya of Solukhumbu.
The head of security in 5 districts has stressed the need to be on high alert as the glacier formed from the mountains including Mount Everest is at high risk of explosion and its direct impact will affect all districts. In the
meeting, the overall situation of peace and security, monsoon-related disasters that may be seen in the coming days and possible security challenges were discussed. The meeting decided to make theft, smuggling control and the arrest of fugitive accused effective, to strengthen the system of quick exchange of information received between the five districts, to request the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority to establish an early warning system in the major rivers, to correspond with the relevant agencies to establish an early warning system at necessary places in the Dudhkoshi Reservoir project and Arun 3rd hydropower project area.
Similarly, it has been decided to cooperate inter-district in matters of price determination related to land acquisition, to coordinate the mobilization of materials and equipment from neighboring districts to open roads blocked by floods, to request the Ministry of Home Affairs to establish a security base of the armed police in Harakpur of Okhaldhunga, and to take necessary vigilance in the matter of the bridge connecting Ghurmi on the Sunkoshi river being at risk.
