Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality, a Himalayan local level where fire engines cannot be used due to lack of road access, has installed a fire hydrant system for fire control. Effective technology for fire control has been installed in every village of all the 5 wards of the municipality and training has also been given to the locals.
This fire control system has been installed in all water supply schemes operated in the municipality. From Lukla to Khumjung this system has been installed in the number of about 1500 . "With the local government managing the technology for fire control, public awareness and training have also been given in the toll-tolls," Municipal President Mingma Chiri Sherpa told Kantipur.
After entering Khumbu, this system is connected to every tol settlement from Chaunrikhark to Khumjung. According to Sherpa, the chairman of the municipality, the fire that broke out in Lukla last year was also brought under control with this technology.
The municipality has installed this system at Tenzing Hillary Airport Lukla, which is one of the busiest in Nepal, and has also provided training there, said Navaraj Gautam, the chief administrative officer of the rural municipality. Deepkumar Basnet, engineer of the municipality, said that this system is connected between the settlements by managing separate high pressure pipes from each water tank. According to him, this technology has become very effective in fire control because the water pressure coming at a high speed works as well as a fire engine and water fountains can be thrown from one point to 30 meters.
Locals are also confident because this technology that runs on the flow of water is close to their homes. The unity of the villagers and the use of this technology have made it easy to control even if there is a fire in the future. ``We all learned how to use it,'' said Karsang Sherpa of Khumbu Pasanglhamu-3, ``Sarka made us feel a lot safer by connecting it.''
The technology installed in this municipality, which is located on the world's highest peak, which is difficult to reach by road, is being very effective for fire control.
