22 houses have been inundated in the Sugabathan area located in Jhapa Rural Municipality-2 when the flood of Maikhola entered the settlement. With the onset of monsoon, the locals have moved to safer places after the flood that came in the Mykhola last night entered the slums.
According to Ward President Himal Chamlagai, due to flooding in areas such as Sugabathan, Milanabasti, Kuwadi, Sadakbasti etc., more than 60 bighas have been damaged in maize cultivation.
'This situation only happened when there was a normal flood in Maikhola,' Chairman Chamlagai said, 'If there is heavy rain, there is a risk of displacement of 3000 households in Ward No. 1 and 2 of Jhapa Rural Municipality.'
This year, the fear of flooding has increased among the locals after the weather forecast department's announcement that it will rain more than Sadrad.
