Due to the incessant rain since this morning, the east-west highway has been completely blocked due to the overflowing of the diversion in Kalikhola located in Mechinagar municipality-6 of Jhapa.

District Police Office Jhapa Information Officer Deputy Superintendent of Police Khagendra Bahadur Khadka informed that the diversion which is under construction under the Asian Highway was swept away by the flood that came with the rain.

He said that an alternative route is being used after the flood washed away the road along with the diversion. For transportation, an alternative route to Kankarvitta Bus Park via Shantigaon Ward Office via Kalikhola to the west of the same place has been used. It is said that coordination is being done with the relevant agencies for road construction.

Meanwhile, the Department of Water and Meteorology has informed through mobile SMS that heavy rainfall has been measured in many places in Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Dhankuta.

Due to more rain, Mechi, Viring, Ninda, Kankai, Chisangkhola, Mawa-Ratuwa, Lohandra, Bakraha, Nunkhola and other small rivers may flood, and high alert has been requested till this afternoon.
