A concrete bridge has not yet been built in the Biring river in Arjundhara Municipality, which was swept away by floods two years ago. Small vehicles are plying on the bridge connecting Mai municipality of Ilam from Virtamode in Jhapa via Arjundhara.
Local Meghraj Ramtel said that the government has not shown any interest in immediate maintenance of the flooded bridge. He says, 'We were satisfied that there was no budget for the first year, but now we are worried if it is not even the second year.'
In winter, the bridge is closed for traffic. As the roof of the bridge has washed away and reached the river, the locals are demanding that a new concrete bridge should be built at that place. Rainy flood flows over the bridge.
Information Officer of Arjundhara Municipality Hemraj Sedhai said that the municipality has requested the federal government for budget management in the construction of the bridge. Speaker Devraj Ghimire and Physical Infrastructure Minister Devendra Dahal have shown interest,' he said, 'They have also looked at the condition of the bridge and we hope that the bridge will be included in the next year's budget.'
Stating that the municipality does not have enough budget to build a new bridge, he said that they have to wait for the federal government. He says that the bridge will not be able to work because it has been washed away and the maintenance will not work.
In the year 2065, the bridge was built with the help of two crore rupees from the Government of India. With the construction of the bridge, long-distance traffic also started running on that road.Vipin Dhungana, Information Officer of Road Division Office Damak, said that the bridge was not included in the action plan of the current financial year.
