The Kakdavitta-Laukhi Road Planning Office (Eastern Section) Damak has instructed to complete the diversion work of the under construction Asian Highway in the eastern section of East-West Highway before the onset of monsoon. The Asian Highway is being upgraded with an investment of 10 billion with the help of the Asian Development Bank.
The project head of the office was instructed by letter on Friday to complete the diversion work as soon as possible to the construction company that has taken the construction contract. Sunilbabu Pant said.
After the onset of monsoon rains, there is an increased risk that the diversions built during the construction of the road may be washed away by floods and traffic may be disrupted, so it is necessary to complete the diversion work as soon as possible, he said.
'Due to potholes in the places where the diversions are made, there may be a big risk of disasters and accidents during the rainy season,' he said, 'We are saying that the work of small bridges and culverts on the highway should be completed as soon as possible and traffic should be operated from the main highway.'
Indicating that an environment will be created in which traffic can be operated from the main road so that traffic does not stop on the east-west highway during the dry season, he said that the progress of the work being done by the construction company that has contracted the construction is being monitored. So far, only 19 percent physical progress has been made in road construction and 17 percent in bridge culvert construction.
He said that even though he has been writing several times not to delay the construction, the progress of the construction company is not satisfactory. Public complaints are also coming that there is a delay in road construction and there is an increased risk that traffic may be blocked during the rainy season.
Kakdvitta-Laukhi Road Planning Office (East Section) Damak Project Chief Pant said that if there is any problem in the highway area during the rainy season, they are ready to report the problem immediately through the Rapid Response Team. He informed that the road work does not stop even during the rainy season.
