The Triyuga river at Chaudandigarhi Municipality-5 Siwai in Udaipur washed away a bus returning after taking people to Saptari. A bus number 1K 4753 coming from Siwai to Beltar was washed away after the road, which was being temporarily operated with a bridge over the river, became weak due to the rain on Monday evening.
Hariharnath Yogi, Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Udaipur, said that despite attempts to pull the bus out of the river on Monday night, it was not possible. 38-year-old Ishwar Khatri of Chaudandigarhi Municipality-5, Siwai, saved his life after the bus suddenly floated in Triyuga river on Monday night.
The police team deployed from Sundarpur, Ela police office, led by the police team, failed to remove the bus with the help of a crane on Monday afternoon, said Bobin Rai, police inspector of Ela police office, Beltar.
Chaudandigarhi-5 The direct connection with Beltar has been broken after the Hium pipe temporarily installed to connect Siwai and Belha was swept away by unseasonal floods. 5, 9 and 10 of Sunderpur, Hadia, Belha and Chaudandigarhi Municipality after the flood washed away the hump pipe. Around 20,000 citizens of the ward are facing problems in moving around Beltar.
'In winter, traffic was being operated with a temporary hydraulic pipe, but the Triyuga river flood washed away the permanent road with hydraulic pipe,' said Dharmendra Kumar Khadka, ward president of Chaudandigarhi municipality-10. He said, "Now the residents of Belha, Hadia, Sundarpur have to travel 41 kilometers through Gaighat to reach Beltar."
After the flood of 19th June 2078, the Pakkipul washed away by the Triyuga river was damaged, the reconstruction has not started till now. Due to this, it is certain that the citizens of that area will suffer during this year's rains as well. Even though it has been three years since the construction of the motorized concrete bridge that started in 067 was destroyed, there is no progress in the reconstruction.
The 13-span, 307-meter-long and five-and-a-half-meter wide bridge built by the Mahalakshmi/Lokpriyar JV at a cost of 110.27 million Nepalese government is in a state of disrepair since it collapsed. Pashupati Gyawali, Head (DE) of Gaighat Diktel Road Plan said that after 2 years and 8 months, the construction of the bridge will not start after the government canceled the contract. According to him, the contract has been terminated because the contractor company has not completed the work despite repeated requests to complete the construction of the bridge.
A few days after the collapse of the bridge, a joint technical team from the Division Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, Damak, Bridge Division and Bridge Sector 1 Dharan came and returned after on-site monitoring. However, before the study team could return and submit its report, 15 days later, the third span of the bridge also collapsed after 2 more pillars were broken by the incessant flood of 2nd July.
When 5 pillars and 3 spans were destroyed by flood, 4 slabs were broken and the bridge became unusable. But for so long, the government is in confusion whether to repair the bridge or build a new one. Ramu Choudhary of Chaudandigarh-10 Hadia complained that since the construction of the bridge was not completed for 15 years, Beltar Bazaar had to face a lot of problems.
Kaluman Lama, head of Chaudandigarhi municipality, said that even after so much time has passed since the bridge was damaged, the lack of reconstruction is the negligence of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and the Road Department.
