In the 10th district session of Morang UML held in Biratnagar on February 23, the panel led by president KP Sharma Oli and other groups Ajmwar Rai won. Similarly, in the Biratnagar Metropolitan Committee election held on Friday, Oli and other parties again did a 'cleansweep'.

Balram Giri was elected as the president from the second session of the metropolis. He defeated the closest competitor, Rohit Koirala of the Oli-led establishment party by 52 votes. With these two election processes, it has been seen that the grip of the Oli group in UML Morang is shrinking and the influence of the group led by Vinod Dhakal is expanding . Dhakal is an old leader of UML. Recently, he is also known as a leader close to former President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

This change seen in UML Morang has also indicated the political comeback of former president Bhandari . The 'sudden' visit of former President Bhandari in the second week of January was considered to be very meaningful politically.

Bhandari was mainly focused on Morang during the visit which took place when the Morang district convention was approaching. She met with UML and former UML leaders-activists from ward, city to district level . Many influential leaders including Vinod Dhakal, intellectual personalities like professor Krishna Pokharel also participated in that meeting. Looking at some events including that visit and the recent UML election results, it has strengthened the speculation that he may be active in politics again. 

Bhandari hinted that she would return to politics with Biratnagar journalists at that time. There is still widespread criticism and discussion about his possible political comeback.

Vinod Dhakal was once a confidant of President KP Sharma Oli. Dhakal was active in reducing the growing influence of Madhav Nepal and increasing Oli's influence in eastern Nepal, but the turn of the situation has made Dhakal an influential opponent of the Oli group. 

2080 Dhakal got angry with Oli from the provincial convention held in October. Dhakal's claim in the session was that of the provincial president. However, the senior leaders of the Oli party, Guru Baral, Sherdhan Rai, Bhanubhakta Dhakal and Hikmat Karki, among others, rejected Dhakal and put forward Ghanshyam Khatiwada, who is close to Madhav Nepal.

Dhakal is now leading a strong opposition front . His political journey, the courage to confront the establishment even though he was a former Olipanthi, and his recent success have made him stand as an important character not only in Morang, but in the entire UML politics.
