Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi municipality has started promotion of tori farming which is not damaged by monkeys. Since monkeys cause damage to other crops, promotion of turmeric cultivation has been started under the production-based subsidy program.
According to Tejprakash Jaisi, the head of the agriculture branch of the municipality, emphasis has been placed on mustard cultivation because monkeys are kept away due to the element called sulfur in mustard. Jaisi said that by increasing the production of mustard in the city, the promotion of mustard farming has also been started to increase the income of the farmers by stopping the importation of mustard. He said that in the next financial year, beekeeping program will be held in conjunction with tori farming. Also, because mustard is not a perishable crop, it has double benefits.
'Mustard has an element called sulphur, it makes monkeys run away, because monkey terror scares the farmers, emphasis has been placed on mustard farming,' he said. He said that under the production-based subsidy program, subsidy is being given at the rate of 15 rupees per kg and this year too, subsidy will be given on the same basis.
Tikaram Acharya of Diktel Acharya Village, Diktel Rupakot Mazhuwagadhi Municipality-1 says that they are excited after getting subsidy for tori farming. "The production-based subsidy program has encouraged the farmers," he said, "last year too, one and a half/two lakhs were received, it seems that this year too, more subsidies will be received."
