The fire that broke out in the Central Plaza at the main square of Itahari was brought under control after 6 hours.

The fire broke out in the tallest 10-storey building of Itahari from 9:30 in the morning. Deputy Superintendent of Police Yograj Khatiwada informed that the fire which broke out on the fifth and sixth floor of the Plaza from 9:30 in the morning was brought under control after 6 hours.

More than a dozen local fire engines from different local levels of Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari were used to control the fire. Similarly, more than 350 security personnel including Nepali Army, armed forces and public police were deployed. After the fire, 11 people trapped in the building were rescued. Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province Revathiraman Bhandari informed that 11 people including 8 men and 3 women trapped on different floors of the plaza have been safely rescued. Three people were rescued by Nepalese army helicopter from Kathmandu.

There are hotels, cinema halls, banks, super markets, clothing stores, mobile and electronics stores operating in the building that caught fire. Deputy Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Bhandari informed that the cause of the fire has not been revealed and the details of the damage are being collected.
