Due to the problem of monkeys, the Bhojpur Manebhangyang residents left the village and the village itself has turned into ruins. Ramprasadarai Rural Municipality-5, the local residents of this place have turned into ruins when they migrated.
Prakash Parajuli, a local resident and headmaster of Bhanubhakta Primary School, said that around 150 families moved from this area over a period of one and a half decades. He said that mainly due to monkey and water problems, Archale, Bhorleni, Damaichhap, Guranse Ranagaon, Thakle and Mohoriya settlements became empty due to increased migration. He said that around 98 percent of the people from this area, which belonged to former Ward No. 8 and 9, have left the village and gone elsewhere.
There are now two houses out of 35 houses in Archle village, three houses out of 33 houses in Vorleni, 40 houses out of 80 houses in Damaichhap and 25 houses in Thakle, he said. Teacher Parajuli said that out of 65 households in Gurase, Ranagaon, 35 and 80 households are left in Mohoria.
'Many of the settlements in Manebhangyang have become ruins when the locals left the village', teacher Parajuli said, 'mainly because of the problem of monkeys and drinking water, people are going elsewhere. Many villages with dense human settlements have become ruins.'
In the past, Bhanubhakta Primary School, where he was teaching, used to have around 300 students, but now there are only 50 students, he said. "Work is being done in the area of development including roads and electricity in the villages", he said, "People are leaving the settlements and going elsewhere." When the people in the lower part left the settlement, the monkey in the upper part started causing trouble. If the population of monkeys increases in this way, the whole village will be empty. The state needs to focus on monkey control, which is the main problem of farmers.'
Jagat Kumar Tamang, a local resident of Archale, said that the problem of monkeys has disturbed the farmers. He said that he is currently living in a vacant house on contract. He says that there are only two houses including his own in Archle. He says that those who moved out have left their houses without selling them, and due to lack of protection, those houses have also started to collapse.
'I have also signed a contract here in someone else's house', he said, 'All the houses here have collapsed and become ruins when they were left unsold. When people leave the settlement, the fertile land is barren. There are only two houses out of a total of 35 houses here.'
He says that it is very difficult to live in a slum where everyone has left. He said that because the settlement was empty, the monkeys were causing more trouble. He said that electricity could not be expanded because everyone left the settlement. Since there are no permanent residents, there is also a problem in the expansion of electricity.
Tamang said that if the state does not bring programs to bring vacant barren land into use along with monkey control, many such settlements will become ruins. He says that many farmers have problems because of monkeys.
