Arjun Kumar Katwal, who won the ward president of Sakela Rural Municipality-4 Mattim from the Maoist party, has been suspended for staying in America without information. Khadka has been suspended indefinitely by the Maoist Center Koshi State Committee.
Deepak Pandey, coordinator of Maoist Center Khotang, said that after staying in America for a year without informing the party and related agencies, he was suspended by the provincial committee for ignoring the party's request to return and take charge. Pandey said that the working committee of the Maoist center Sakela Rural Municipality had recommended action on December 11, 2008, saying that America had been without information since January 17, 2080 and that there was a problem in people's work.
Locals have been protesting saying that all the services, facilities, development construction and other services provided to the people have been affected due to the absence of the ward president. After Katwal, who had gone on a visit to America, did not return, the all-party/all-party committee formed under the coordination of Mattim's former ward president Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, demanded an immediate solution to the problem and locked the ward office last October.
Katwal stayed in America for two and a half months and returned in 2079. At that time, Katwal appointed the ward members as caretakers.
