After the second week of February, snowfall has started in Khumbu region. The snow that did not fall in the winter season (Push-Magha) fell in mid-February when the winter was waning. It has been snowing in the high Himalayan region since last night, while it is raining in the lower regions of the district.
Heavy snowfall has occurred in the area above Namche Bazar, which is 3450 meters above sea level.
Locals are happy after this year's big snowfall. Chhimicalden Sherpa, a resident of Namche, said that along with Hiupare, the Namche market and the upper area were completely destroyed. At present, there is about 1 foot of snow in Namche Bazar.
As the cold has increased with the fall of snow, the Nepal Police have started patrolling the Himalayas from the morning, urging people to be cautious to avoid the cold. DSP Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, Chief of the District Police Office, said that a team of 7 people started patrolling from Saturday morning in the case of Namcheka Asai.
He said that the police are trying to understand the problems caused by the cold in the Himalayan settlements and give advice to avoid them. Snow has fallen on Dudhkund, Pikedanda, Ratnange and Pattala hills. Similarly, the farmers are happy with the rain in the southern part.
