The 'No Cable Car Group' has put forward three proposals for negotiations with the government. They are demanding that the cable car construction work should be stopped, the armed police team should be withdrawn from Kaflepati area and the three arrested activists should be released unconditionally.
Similarly, the protestors have maintained the closure of the Mechi Highway and Tamor Corridor for the second day as well. The workers who are sitting on the highway have not allowed motorcycles, tampos and other vehicles to run. Because of this, patients going to the hospital and civilians have been killed.
The political and peace negotiation committee formed by the Koshi state government has called for formal talks on Tuesday. But Prem Ekten, central president of Kirat Yakthum Chumlung, said that they were not aware of the talks and had not received any official notification. He also said that there is no point in negotiating with the state government. "This (cable car) is a decision made by the federal government, so it is a matter with the union," he said.
Kamal Thapa, member secretary of the state government's negotiation committee, said that he made a public appeal because he did not know who was in the movement. He said that if this information is not received, it will be discussed in the committee. In the decision made by the committee, it is asked to come to the negotiation or to have formal and informal contact with the members of the committee.
Minister of Home Affairs Ramesh Lakkar also had a discussion with MPs of Taplejung, Ilam and Sankhuwasabha on Tuesday. According to Yogesh Bhattarai, Member of the House of Representatives, who participated in the discussion, the union has also made up its mind to negotiate if necessary. "As the issue of cable cars is related to tourism and physical infrastructure, it is the home minister's intention to form a negotiation committee in coordination with these ministries," Bhattarai said.
In the negotiation committee of the province under the coordination of Economic Affairs and Planning Minister Ram Bahadur Magar, Physical Infrastructure Development and Health Minister Bhupendra Rai is a member, Internal Affairs and Law Minister Revati Raman Bhandari is a member and Acting Provincial Secretary Kamal Bahadur Thapa is a member secretary. On January 12, there was a clash between the No Cable Car group and the police at Kaflepati in Pathibhara area.
The police arrested Laxman Limbu and Chandra Sagar Limbu on the same day and arrested Pradeep Maden from the headquarter Fungling on Tuesday on charges of leading the movement and threatening to kill Netra Prasad Sharma. Three people injured in the clash on January 12 are being treated at the teaching hospital in Kathmandu. The government said that 21 policemen and five civilians were injured in the clash.
Even though it is a matter with the federal government, the state government's official letter has come and the agitating group is of the mindset that the matter of negotiations can be reconsidered.
