The Shaktipeeth Gadhimai complex of Ward No-1 Bariyarpur village under Mahagadhimai Municipality has become tense since Friday morning. After Mayor Upendra Yadav was besieged by locals, an additional team has been mobilized from the District Police Office under the command of DSP to control the situation.
A group of 12- and 13-year-old children of the village reached the temple premises on Thursday evening and were beaten up by the city police after they tried to catch the pigeons of the temple.
On Friday, when a group reached the temple premises and went to talk to the city police about the beating incident, there was more controversy between them. Manoj Gupta, chairman of Ward No. 1, said that the situation became tense after the city police tried to lathicharge. Locals surrounded Mayor Yadav and the city police inside the building of the marriage hall near the temple.
Chief District Officer Basant Adhikari said that armed forces and additional forces of Nepal Police have been mobilized to ensure that the situation does not go out of control and public and personal peace and security are not affected.
